An innovative partnership to promote best practice for diabetes patients
Acting on our commitment as a diabetes care company to support patients and the NHS in dealing with a burdensome chronic condition that now affects some 2.8 million people in the UK, Sanofi is partnering with Diabetes UK, NHS Diabetes, the Department of Health and the PM Group to implement the Diabetes Quality in Care (QiC) programme.
QiC Diabetes is the first in a new series of programmes designed to highlight good practice in NHS priority therapy areas, in line with the Department of Health's QIPP agenda. The intention is to recognise and disseminate innovations by individuals, healthcare teams and collaborative projects that bring real benefits for patients, while promoting joint working between the NHS, patient groups and industry.
The inaugural 2011 Awards ceremony hosted by Sanofi showcased almost 60 examples of excellence and innovation in diabetes care, including partnership projects and clinical service redesigns developed by hospitals, the community and industry.
The quality of the initiatives nominated in the Awards' 15 categories (including a silver in the Pharmaceutical Initiative category for Sanofi's Excellence in Diabetes nurse skills programme) demonstrated how imaginative partnership working can improve patient outcomes in the face of unprecedented pressure on public spending. NHS Diabetes will be sharing the learnings with the relevant healthcare professionals nationwide.
